Send your first invoice
Turn tracked work into money: create an invoice for a client, mark it sent, and record the payment when it lands. About three minutes.

Before you start
Invoicing is available on every tier, including Freelancer. You’ll need at least one client on file and a role with billing access, and your workspace must have a default currency and tax rate configured — until then the Billing page shows a setup banner and the New Invoice button stays disabled.
- 1Open the dashboard, go to Billing in the sidebar, and switch to the Invoices tab.
- 2Press New Invoice. Under Invoice Details, pick the Client, optionally link a Project, and set the Issued and Due dates.
- 3Build your Line Items: a description, quantity, a unit (Hours, Days, Months, Units, or Fixed), and a unit price. For tracked work, one line per project or period with the quantity in hours reads well. Subtotal, tax, and total update as you type; the tax rate and label are prefilled from your workspace settings.
- 4Press Create Invoice. It’s saved as a draft, so you can still Edit or Duplicate it from the row’s three-dot menu before anything goes out.
- 5When it’s ready, open the row menu and choose Mark as Sent. TimerOS doesn’t email the invoice for you — but a sent invoice becomes visible and payable in your client’s portal.
- 6In the portal, a contact with payment permission can Download PDF and — if Stripe payments are enabled for your workspace — press Pay with card to pay through secure Stripe checkout. Without Stripe, the portal offers a bank-transfer route instead, showing your bank details if you’ve added them, and the client can mark the invoice paid once they’ve sent the money.
- 7If the payment arrives by bank transfer, record it yourself: choose Record Payment on the invoice, confirm the Payment Amount, and the status moves to paid — or partial if it’s a part-payment.
If you bill support work, the Generate from Billable Items button on the same tab rolls unbilled incidents and change requests into a draft invoice for you. For the bigger picture, see billing & invoicing and the client portal.
