Organisation & roles

TimerOS lets you shape your workspace into departments and teams, place people into roles, and control exactly what each person can see and do — with the depth of control scaling up by plan.

Most organisation management happens in two places: the web dashboard (for inviting people, assigning dashboard access, transferring ownership, and deleting the workspace) and the desktop or web app (for the app-level roles, departments, teams, and the org chart). Throughout, removals are data-preserving rather than destructive: removing a person revokes their login right away (the account itself can’t be restored — you’d re-invite them), while their employee record and time history are end-dated rather than erased, and the workspace itself is deleted only after a cancellable grace period.

Departments and teams

Departments and teams help you group people for scheduling, performance, and reporting. On Startup you get team management plus a single department (named “Company”). Enterprise (early access) unlocks fully custom departments and a visual Org Chart showing teams, departments, and reporting lines. The sidebar label adapts to your plan — Startup shows “Company”, Enterprise shows “Department”.

  • Invite and place team members, then assign them to positions and teams (setting up your workspace).
  • Departments are Startup+ (one department, named “Company”, on Startup; custom departments on Enterprise).
  • The org-wide interactive Org Chart (spanning departments and reporting lines) is Enterprise-only; Startup gets a single-department interactive org chart on the Department page’s Org Chart tab.

Roles and permissions

Two role systems run side by side. Dashboard roles (Admin / Member) control only who can use the web dashboard — Members are redirected to the apps. App roles (CEO, Team Lead, Member, and so on) control what people do inside the desktop and web apps and are managed on the Roles page.

  • Startup: pre-defined role presets across five canonical levels (Owner, Executive, Management, Team Leader, Team Member).
  • Enterprise (early access): fully custom roles built on a granular permission matrix.

Inviting, transferring, and removing people

  1. 1Invite on the dashboard Users page with a name, email, and dashboard role — the invitee gets an emailed link to set their own password — optionally placing them into a position, department, and team right away.
  2. 2Promote or change access per row (toggle Admin/Member, reset a user’s 2FA) or select multiple people for bulk make-Admin, make-Member, or bulk remove. The owner is always pinned and can’t be selected.
  3. 3Transfer ownership from Settings → Danger zone (owner only): pick a member, confirm with your password, and you’re demoted to admin.
Soft deletes
Removing a user soft-removes the linked employee record (end-dated, not hard-deleted), and deleting the workspace schedules it for removal in 30 days — logins are blocked immediately but the deletion is cancellable during the grace period.

Audit trail

A timestamped audit log of admin actions is described in Settings but is not yet built — it’s a “Coming soon” placeholder with no log to view today. (Notice-publish banners that mention “recorded in your audit log” are referring to this future capability.) Follow progress on the roadmap.

Heads up
A few dashboard controls are placeholders for now: the Users page “Import CSV”, “Columns”, and the Role/Status filter chips have no effect yet.
